I need no reminding that the ABs are the biggest chokers of all time! 
I'm actually a little more optimistic this time than I have been for the last few WCs, mainly as not too many people over here are. The nation as a whole finally came to the realisation in 2007 that the tag of 'favourites' means nothing at WC time, and that the ABs succumb to the overwhelming pressure that the country and the media put them under. I.e., they choke.
I was glad when NZ didn't win the Tri-Nations this year. People tend to think of the ABs these days as a team that's always pretty damn good, but there are other teams who are pretty damn good, and in this competition any one of 4-5 teams could win it. The expectation that this time we'll win it is simply not there now. That has to be a good thing. 
Oh BTW, I'm also an Irish citizen so I support Ireland, unless they're playing NZ of course. It's not that I excessively enjoy seeing the Aussies get their noses rubbed in it.  They'll probably bounce back and win the cup now.  |

Oops, I missed this somehow. 
No and Yes. No, I didn't go to any matches (not interested enough in watching minors play minors or majors thrash minors). I'm even less interested when it's at night and cold with the threat of rain. A heated lounge with a glass of port and a movie scratches my itch more effectively. |

I guess my predictions for the quarter finals will be the same as anyone else's. Winner in bold...
Ireland vs. Wales
England vs. France
South Africa vs. Australia (I don't have a clue, it's 50:50)
New Zealand vs. Argentina

Up early to watch a bit of rugby before going to work. Wales vs Ireland looks like it's going to be a great game. Although Wales are 7 points up at the moment I think the Irish will win it.
England should beat France, SA will win against Australia, and NZ will be the other semi-finalists. |

Wales deserved winners, they were better in every department. Ireland had no way through.
France always seem to suddenly become dangerous in the knockout stages. They've been in 2 finals and sent NZ packing twice. They were great in that first half. |
