Randall let me know how stupid I am when I posted something about the Tea Party many months ago (no longer a fan of the TP here after it was taken over by far right crazies). It will be interesting to see if he scolds me for this post.
I've been following #OccupyWallStreet. I remember back in 2008 when another Fwiffer (sorry, I don't remember who) asked, "Why aren't Americans rioting?" It took awhile, but this is it, sort of, in the form of peaceful civil disobedience.

Some look down on the protesters as spoiled kids who are living in their parents' basement. Others look upon them as heroes. They say, the kids and other protesters are demonstrating on behalf of everyone who is part of the 99% who are not in the excessively wealthy and privileged 1 percent.
I'm guessing the current protest will die out before November, when winter weather comes in. But, now that they have experienced true democracy, and now that they have been treated so dismissively by those in power, will these folks organize and prepare over the winter months to come back stronger in the spring? |
