Rather than try to write it all out separately, I'll just post the note that my friend Kennetha posted to Facebook. It covers fairly much all that is going on, except that about 3 weeks ago she developed some very intense itching to her feet and hands. Research on my part revealed that this is often a sign of a dysfunctional bile duct in her liver. *Sometimes* that can be addressed by a simple procedure, but at other times it can't. And of course it turns out that this is a time that it can't. It seems she is missing a vital artery to her liver that they tried to address with a graft, which didn't take. SO...
:OK, time to let anyone who might be interested know...My transplant surgery has not gone as well as first thought and it is failing. Though my body is not rejecting the liver, the bile ducts lacked enough bloodflow to maintain them and have become irreparably damaged. That invites infections and a continuous battle, leading to total failure. I am still much healthier than I was, and all my "numbers" are still terrific, but no hope of this continuing. So, I am at the top of the transplant list and awaiting another liver. It will be a repeat of the last one (feb. 18th, 2013) except they know what to hook up to what, this time, and I hopefully am stronger. I ask for prayers that this will happen as quickly and smoothly as possible. I couldn't ask for an easier procedure than the last and I feel very little dread, except putting my family and friends through this again. I so wish this liver was not wasted....someone else is waiting for one as you read this...Please please please sign a donor card as soon as possible, so the maximum benefit is available to more people!
So... to repeat what she and I said to each other privately: SHIT SHIT SHIT!!! Wish this wasn't happening!!! |

And so they called Kennetha in to the hospital yesterday and by last night/early this morning, she had received her liver. Blessed be to the family and donor who gave her this gift of life. May God give that person a special seat at the table!! Cari Lyn said she hasn't awakened yet this morning, but she's sitting by her bed, waiting for her to wake up. |
