Apologies if there's already a thread on this but I wanted to check on any New Yorkers/ surrounding area fwfers out there.
The only one I know off the top of my head is Randall. Has anyone heard from him recently? Really hope he and his good lady are okay.
Also is there anyone else I'm missing? |

Coincidentally - this afternoon I sent him an eMail to check he's ok. My half-bro and my half-sis & their fams were evacuated from the East Village and Brooklyn. Just heard on BBC news that below mid-town Manhattan there's still no power.
Still can't quite believe that dramatic, distressing photo of a tanker washed up on Staten Island shore. Yikes!
Wishing well to all caught up in the storm.

Sorry, gang. Didn't see this until just now. Thank you very much for your concern, but as you'll see if you click the link up there in Baffy's post, we were very lucky...we didn't even lose power in our neighborhood. But many friends of ours who live way downtown won't have electricity again until probably Saturday. Unlike the big blackout a few years ago, though, not all of us are powerless [if you know Manhattan, it's mainly the area below Midtown...everybody north of that, and in most of the outer boroughs, is fine; low-lying areas of Brooklyn were hit hard too], so there's lots of floor-sleepin and cell-phone chargin being done at friends' houses, gyms, friendly hotels, etc. Also, it isn't the sweltering mid-summer, but it's not yet freezing either, so those are two lucky breaks.
I wrote the piece Baffy links to for three reasons: (1) to record, like a journalist would; (2) to de-jitter myself, b/c I wasn't sure when the juice might wink off or a window explode, and I needed something to do to take my mind off of it; and (3) so I could later explain what happened in detail to anybody who asked without having to repeat myself umpteen times. So if you'll just click on that link, I'll give you all the details. For your eyes only.

Last I heard, Sandy was booking it up toward Toronto. How are my mates doing up there? |

Toronto--Lots of wind and rain on Monday. Trees uprooted and branches down and pockets without power. One fatality--hit by flying sign.
One power worker killed in Sarnia (western Ontario bordering Detroit) which was hit with powerful winds and rain.
Moved east towards the coast but with diminished force.
Bottom line: Canada relatively unscathed relative to the disaster in States. |

Still, it sounds horrendous enough! Hope you and Mrs lemmy stayed warm and dry!
