[even tho I hate adverts, this is definitely the way of cool online marketing] Somehow I don't see css covering this!!!
PS - I'm using the book-flipping thing in a site I've built for a kids' author. It's in its final checking at the moment, but I'll post the url soon.

The sound thing shouldn't be too hard ... just upload the relevant mp3 file to the library and you can edit fade in/volume etc
css - cascading style sheets which are mighty handy, don't get me wrong. It's just that fanatics are always going on about how you can do everything with them! 
I take a more eclectic approach ... whatever works!
